Zelfs op een techblog als nullbeta.net kan ik het niet nalaten om een stukje off-topic tekst te schrijven. En mijn bewondering voor TOOL te ventileren.

Het gros van de mensen beschouwt de muziek van TOOL ongetwijfeld als één brok herrie. Waarom ben ik zo weg van deze band? Behalve dan dat ik persoonlijk wel gecharmeerd ben van wat herrie? Nou, onder meer omdat …

• TOOL de human condition haarscherp in beeld brengt. In hun teksten passeert alles de revue wat mooi én lelijk is aan mensen;
• de band nummers schrijft die — in muzikaal opzicht — fantastisch zijn opgebouwd;
• de muziek van TOOL overloopt van de emoties.

Het laatste punt — emotie — wordt prachtig geïllustreerd door het nummer 10,000 days (wings part 2). Judith Marie, de moeder van TOOL-voorman James Keenan, was de inspiratiebron voor 10,000 days . Ze leed aan een hersenaandoening en een verlamming. Na een ziekbed van 27 jaar (de 10000 dagen van lijden waar Keenan het over heeft) stierf ze.

10,000 days (wings pt2) is ruim tien minuten pure emotie. In mp3 gegoten.

Ik heb een stout recept voor jullie in petto. Bijzonder geschikt voor feestelijke gelegenheden. Zoals Koninginnedag bijvoorbeeld.
